About Pakko Embroidery

Pakko embroidery is one of the most renowned hand embroidery arts, often called the "song of the needle." This intricate style is practiced by the Sodha-Rajput community, from whom it takes its name. In the local language, "paku kam" means solid work, a fitting description of its strength and durability. The embroidery's dense and sturdy appearance is achieved through the abundant use of a tight, open, and elongated chain stitch known as cheereli saankdi.

Inspired by nature, artisans incorporate birds, animals, and figurative motifs into their designs, reflecting deep respect for the natural world. The richness of color combinations and the density of the stitches highlight the exceptional skill of the craftswomen. Mirrors and daano are commonly used in Pakko embroidery, with single-unit chain stitches strategically placed to lighten the density. The daano, done in white thread, serves as a striking highlighter, adding depth and contrast.

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, Pakko embroidery is a testament to both creativity and tradition, preserving the cultural heritage of the Sodha-Rajput artisans through each meticulously crafted piece.
