About Tapko embroidery
.
Tapko embroidery is one of the most famous hand embroidery arts, the song of the needle. This style of embroidery gets its name from the community that practices it. Sodha-Rajput is the name of the community. Tapko means the local language; ‘tapku’ means Round. The work represents its name: strong and durable. The strength and density of the work are achieved through the abundant use of the tight, open, and elongated chain stitch known as the cheereli saankdi. Artists get inspiration for their works from natural elements. By designing the birds, animals, and figurative motifs in their works, they reflect respect for nature. Denseness and colour combination are the admirable skills of artists. In this embroidery, the craftswomen use mirrors and daano. They make a single unit of the chain stitch to lighten the density of Tapko embroidery. They do daano, using white threads, as an effective highlighter. Through this work, the craftswomen not only represent their creative skills but also the tradition.
