About pakko embroidery

.

Pakko embroidery is one of the most famous hand embroidery arts, known as the song of the needle. This style of embroidery gets its name from the community that practices it—the Sodha-Rajput community. In the local language, pakko means "solid," and paku kam refers to strong, durable work. The strength and durability of the work are achieved through the abundant use of tight, open, and elongated chain stitch known as cheereli saankdi.

Artists draw inspiration from natural elements, designing birds, animals, and figurative motifs in their works, reflecting a deep respect for nature. The density and color combinations are the most admirable skills of the artists. In this embroidery, the craftswomen use mirrors and daano (small knots). They make a single unit of the chain stitch to lighten the density of Pakko embroidery. They also use white threads for daano as an effective highlighter.

Through this work, the craftswomen not only showcase their creative skill but also represent their tradition.
