Jat-Garasiya is the community in a remote area of Kutch, and the brand Jat-Garasiya has got its name from the community. They are basically herdsmen.
Jat Garasiya women are experts in creating geometrical designs. The most distinguished features of this embroidery are counted stitches and cross stitches. There is no need to draw, but first they outline the design by stitches, and then they fill the gaps that form the geometrical shape. The geometrical shapes are created by mentally counting the threads of the fabric. The only type of stitch they used was cross stitch. With the cross stitches, they used colourful mirrors to decorate the designs. The cross stitches are very fine and neatly embroidered on the cotton base fabric.
The women of Garasiya Jat used to wear long dresses with heavily embroidered yokes. Tradition means having your own identity, and traditional handwork represents that identity in the world of fashion.
